Tim's surgery went very well! Yeah God! We were delayed and went a bit late on Thursday. Tim talked the nurses into getting him pizza, bread sticks, and apple pie to take home and eat later :) If he could not eat before surgery (which did not happen until after 4 in the afternoon. No food since midnight the night before!!!), he had fun planning what he would eat later!!! The Kwire in now out. The arm is straight. Please pray for strength in the bone. For the first time is years, Tim has not hardware supporting that arm. It is vulnerable. But God is stronger! Tim will have limited use of that arm for 3-4 months. Thank you for the prayers!

4th surgery in 5 months :S

Just got back from the doctor and the wire in Tim's arm it right back out again! That is the not so good news. The good news is that the fracture has healed a lot in the last 2 weeks. The plan is to remove the wire from the upper part of arm. It will be outpatient at DeVos Children Lord willing. Pray for a successful surgery with minimal pain. Pray for patience. The doctor said no using that right arm for a least 3 months! Tim's words on the way home for the doctor, "Satan is going to be blowing bubbles by the time I am done with him!"

Monday, July 23, 2012

Tim's surgery was done at DeVos Children's today. It went well. We are home now!! Yeah! He is sore and a bit nauseated but it is good to be back home. Dr. Cassidy was pleased with how it went. The wire had worked it's way a long way up into Tim's shoulder. He had to straighten out the original fracture site and reposition the wire back over the facture site. The hope and prayer is that it stays put. Thank you for all the prayers, notes, texts.....

I want to live like that
And give it all I have
So that everything I say and do
Points to You

If love is who I am
Then this is where I'll stand
Recklessly abandoned
Never holding back

I want to live like that
I want to live like that
This is where we as a family are trying to live! In reckless abandon to our Lord and Savior. Tim's prayer yesterday was for Satan "to bring it on!" No matter what Satan throws at us we will praise our Lord and Savior!!!!!

More Surgery

I know it has been awhile since an update. It has been a long journey since the accident. Tim has had a lot of pain. In the last weeks the pain in his right arm/shoulder has been intense. "I can not live like this Mom. Something has to be wrong!" We finally got our answer this week after visits to the ER's and doctors. The wire in Tim's arm has shifted up and is over an inch out of the bone stabbing into Tim's shoulder. Tim is scheduled for surgery at DeVos Children's on Monday, July 23. They hope to reset Tim's arm and push the wire back into place. We have also sent the films up to Montreal. The surgery at DeVos would help with the pain but there is nothing preventing the wire from slipping back up into the shoulder. If there is enough bone in the arm maybe Dr. Fassier would try to attempt putting a rod back in. That would be a much more permanent fix but a surgery with a lot more risk. Please pray! God has this all under control.

Monday, May 28, 2012

Tim is doing a bit better every day! We are hoping to stop in to school later this week to say "HI" and get some homework figured out. We are also going to get some xrays of Tim's arm. Please pray that the bone is healing and that it is straight. It would be great to get Tim out of this sling/cast and into a shower and a new sling!!! Thanks for all the prayers! We are so thankful to have been able to be together as a family to celebrate Allison's graduation. It felt great to be together!!! We still have a long road for Tim. Pray for patience for everyone and for the pain to continue to get better.

Monday, May 21, 2012

We had a wonderful day yesterday celebrating with Allison at her Open House. It was perfect! We even were able to have Tim there for a couple of hours. Yeah God! Tonight, we will have the 6 of us together!!! Chris is coming home today! We are taking life one day at a time. Tim's pain is slowly getting better. We were able to get him transferred into a car yesterday. Please pray as we continue to try to get Tim's doctor's orders figured out to continue his care.

Friday, May 18, 2012

Erika is HOME!!! Yeah God :) Allison just had her last day to high school!!! Yeah God! Chris is coming home Monday for a few days. A lot to be thankful for! Tim's pain is a little better every day. We are still working on getting home nursing aid care so Kevin and I can have a break here and there and so I can go back to work. One day at a time!

Thursday, May 17, 2012

It is so good to be home :) We are excited to pick up Erika tonight! Please pray that her flights home from Honduras go well. We will be up to the 5 of us back together! Chris is coming home on Monday. The reunion we have all been praying for. All 6 of us together again! At least for a little while. Please pray that we can get Tim's care at home figured out. It has been hard. They actually wanted to admitted Tim back into Mary Free Bed for a week to help get the medical consults we need, xrays, PT, pain management.....Great idea except we all really want to be home for awhile!!!! It is a lot of red tape. We just want to be a family for awhile. All under one roof. Please pray!

Tuesday, May 15, 2012

One step at a time. Tim is doing ok. A little less pain everyday. Still trying to work out lots of details. Kevin and I had the privilege to go to the honors night last night and cheer on our Miss Allison. It was so awesome to be in person to hug her and congratulate her! Thank you to everyone!! I honestly do not know how we could do this without your prayers, words of encouragement, food, hugs,......God has blessed us with an incredible circle of family in Christ!!!!

Monday, May 14, 2012

We are HOME!!! :) We got home around 9:30 last night. The ride went well. Thank you to Curt Brouwer for riding up and back with Kev and us and for letting us use their conversion van. Tim was able to lie down on the bed in the back for the whole trip. Tim had an ok night. He was pretty sore this morning but we were able to get on top of it with pain medicine. So amazing to sleep in my own bed last night!! Now we are trying to catch up. Lots of phone calls to set up doctor's appointments, x-rays that need to be ordered, home nursing care to line up......the phone is ringing off the hook. We are also trying to figure out how to transfer Tim in and out of bed at home. We need to figure out how to transfer him to and from doctor's appointments. A bit overwhelming to say the least, but.....at least we are home!! Yeah God!!!!

Saturday, May 12, 2012

It has been a hard couple of days. PAIN. It has been hard to keep it under control. When Tim lays on his side his hand and elbow hurt. When Tim lays on his back his back hurts. We are trying to space the medication to cover the pain but it is hard. The plan is to leave for home tomorrow. Pray that Tim's pain lessens. Pray that he can continue to hold his arm still so that the bone can heal straight. Kevin is heading up here today. Pray for safe travels. Love to all :)

Thursday, May 10, 2012

Day one after the arm surgery. Tim had a rough night. A lot of pain. The resident stopped in at 6:30. "Amazing!" He was reacting to how much Tim was moving his hand. Dr. Fassier stopped in this morning. He reiterated that Tim should not move his arm. The Kwire is very flexible. Dr. Fassier wants us to leave the Vietnam sling and dressings in place for at least 3 weeks. Please pray that the bone pieces stay in place and that Tim does not get too overwhelmed with all the restrictions. Right now it is hard for him to even roll on to his side. We are hoping to get some of the 20 plus staples out of Tim's back later today. Praise God that Tim is not nauseated!

Wednesday, May 9, 2012

Yeah God! Surgery is done. It did not go as smoothly as they had hoped. Dr. Fassier cut the existing rod in half. He was able to pull the upper half by the shoulder out easily. But,....the bottom piece did not come out easily. Dr. Fassier said Tim's bone was like rock. After doing their best the bone broke again. This time very close to the elbow. Dr. Fassier was not able to rerod the arm. He ended up improvising a bit and placed two K wires. They are not near as strong as a rod. One was threaded into the bone from the shoulder down and the other he very carefully threaded from the elbow up. The good news is that they over lap a bit at the new elbow fracture so that it is a bit stronger there. Dr. Fassier was very concerned about the nerve in the arm. It was stretched and pulled for a long time during the surgery. Here comes another "Yeah God!" Tim was able to move his fingers and wrist already in the recovery room. Dr. Fassier stopped in before he left (after a really long day!!!) and smiled when he saw Tim moving his hand and wrist. "Now I can go home and sleep tonight! I will see you in the morning." Please pray for healing! This arm will need a lot of it!!! Pray that all the pieces of bone will stay in place and not rotate around the K wire. Pray that the K wire will be strong enough to enable Tim to wheel and do all the things he loves to do. Love to all :) Our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness!!!

Tuesday, May 8, 2012

Tim is getting a bit stronger every day. His appetite is still not very good but at least the nausea is a bit better. Tim's surgery on his arm is scheduled for 12:30 pm tomorrow. It is scheduled for about 3 hours. He will not be allowed anything to eat or drink after midnight. To be honest, we are both a little distracted and nervous. It will be another bigger surgery. Please pray that there will be minimal blood lose. That God will protect all the nerves that run down the arm and go into the hand. There is always a risk of nerve damage when the doing the arm roding. We have been doing devotions up here and the one thing that has come up the last couple of days is that we do not need to try and "hang on" to God. That would imply using our strength. Rather, we need to hide in the shadow of His wings, seek the protection of His tower, rest in the grip of His hand. Yeah God because we have spent all our own strength a long time ago :) !!

Monday, May 7, 2012

Monday morning. It is sunny and beautiful. The last couple of days I have been able to go for some walks. For those that have been in Montreal with Tim and me, I am walking from the the hospital down to the corner by the hotel on St. Catherine's and then up Mt. Royal to the top of the look out and then back down to the hospital. (The walk down is a lot easier than the walk up) Tim is excited to get his left leg cast off this morning. We are going to get some xrays out of the cast. There is a chance that Tim will have some surgery on that leg too. Have a blessed day :) God has blessed us with another day to make a difference in this world and to honor and worship our Creator!!

Sunday, May 6, 2012

Blessed Sabbath to all! Tim and I love watching our church's live stream of the worship service. A slice of home when we are both missing home :) Our goal today is to have Tim work on sitting up. Since the accident Tim has been on bedrest most of the time. Now, when Tim sits up much higher than 30% he gets dizzy and nauseated. He will need to be able to maintain that position to get home. Tim's surgery for his right upper arm is scheduled for Wednesday about 12:30pm. They have him down for 3 hours.
"I stand amazed in the presence of Jesus the Nazarene, and wonder how He could love me, a sinner, condemned, and unclean. O how marvelous! O how wonderful! And my song shall EVER be: O how marvelous! O how wonderful! Is my Savior's love for me!"

Saturday, May 5, 2012

Sunny, cool day today! Tim is making some slow but tiny steps of progress everyday. The sparkle comes back into his eyes more and more each day. Tim and I have had some sweet times of prayer and talk. Basically, our own time of worship. "Where two or three are gathered..."We are trying to bloom where God has planted us for now.

Friday, May 4, 2012

Another drippy, rainy day in Montreal. Tim and I are just taking things slow. He starting eating a little yesterday. He was very nauseated again last night. Bummer! We are just doing toast, soup, small amounts of fruit. Tim does not look good when he turns an interesting shade of green :S Our prayer is that he feels a lot better before his next big surgery on Wednesday. Love to all!!!

Thursday, May 3, 2012

Tim is doing much better!!! Yeah God!!!! He had a little toast and chicken soup last night and did not throw it up :) He had a little fruit and toast this morning. We just saw Dr. Fassier this morning. Tim is scheduled to have surgery Wednesday or Thursday next week on his arm. Another "Yeah God!!!" Please pray that Tim's body will be up for the next surgery. His mind and heart are, thanks to his Lord and Savior! Ps 63:6-8 "On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me."

Wednesday, May 2, 2012

Day 2 after surgery. Tim's pain is doing ok. Our bigger problem in his nausea. He has had a little ginger ale since surgery but that is all. He just had some more IV medication for nausea. We got our first look at Tim's back. He has 20 plus more staples in his back. A big "YEAH GOD!!" We saw Dr. Fassier yesterday! We were all just speechless and had plenty of tears. He ordered more xrays on the arm and legs. Hopefully we will get some idea what's the next step for Tim's limbs. "We have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; stuck down, but not destroyed." 2 Corinthians 4:7-9 Kevin drove home yesterday. He got home safely about 12:40am. Thank the Lord! It is a long drive when you are tired and flying solo. Thank you for all your prayers!!!!

Tuesday, May 1, 2012

Our family would like to say some words of thanks. First of all we want to thank God for being faithful and showing us more grace than we can ever imagine. He is our provider and healer. We have been reading Ray Vanderlaan's book Walking with God in the Desert and as mentioned in the book, God is more than enough. We also want to thank the Holland Christian and Zeeland Christian communities for all their prayers and support. We are very blessed to be planted in such a caring and compassionate community. Thank you to our families! They have walked along side of us faithfully. Thank you to our friends. Meals, sweet notes, surprise gift cards, texts of encouragement.....the list is ENDLESS!!! "Thank you" are two little words that do not even start to express our family's feelings. God Bless!!
We had an ok night. We tried our best to avoid post operative nausea but during the night Tim started throwing up (even after 2 doses of Zofran). Not fun with a sore back. Tim is on a morphine PCA pump. One hour at a time. Kev is leaving today. Please pray for safe travels for him. We will load him up with some Tim Horton's muffins :) Do not have any idea yet when Tim and I will be coming home. Thank you for you prayers and sweet words of encouragement to all 6 of us!!! We are hiding under the shelter of His wings!!!!

Monday, April 30, 2012

Surgery is DONE!!! Yeah God! Tim's lower back was pretty damaged and they ended up having to fuse the entire lower back. Not what we had hoped for. Dr. Oulette said that without the surgery all four lower vertebrae would not have stayed in line. We were very blessed that none of them had shifted since the accident. Total God thing! The surgery did go well. Tim lost a fair amount of blood because the bone was very vascular trying to heal itself. Tim had to receive 2 units of blood during surgery. He is resting quietly.  Dr. Oulette said that "Tim will not like me for a few days!" They expect a fair amount of pain. Dr. Oulette said that Dr. Fassier (the arm and leg surgeon) will be in town at the end of the week. Yeah God! He is very concerned about Tim's arm. It was very hard to even just position Tim for the surgery. Thank you for your prayers! I was never much of a runner and I feeling like we are on our 3 or 4 lap of a marathon :) "You will run and not go weary!" God has got us!!!!

Sunday, April 29, 2012

Sunday morning :) Tim and I got to sit back (after blood draws, urine samples, medications....) and watch our Haven family's worship service. Thank you Christopher Williams! Your song for Tim is so precious to us!! We are waiting for the fun of tonight :) Special shower/scrub and an enema :S Kevin should be up by us tonight. The resident said that surgery should start tomorrow at 8ish (putting in special lines to monitor, arterial lines...) and that the actual procedure will start around 9. They are planning on at least four hours and then a couple hours in recovery room to closely monitor Tim. Please pray for positioning during the surgery. With so many limbs broke and Tim's upper back they are worried that laying Tim on his stomach for 4 plus hours might aggravate some of his current fractures. We are being led and held by our Lord and Savior!!! I will try and post something tomorrow as soon as I can. Peace to all!!

Saturday, April 28, 2012

Saturday morning. It is a quieter morning :) Tim had a better night sleep! Yeah God! We really made sure the pain medication were spaced well and given throughout the night. Still have not heard anything in regards to Dr. Fassier's return time. We are leaving that in God's hands. He is our guy if there is anyone that can fix Tim's arm and legs. Thanks to everyone that helped make Allison's senior banquet special. It was hard missing it (just ask Tim, I was a little crabby last night). So fun to see all the pics on facebook. Pray for safe travels for Kevin. He will be heading up here tomorrow. It is a long drive! Pray for Allison as she tries to enjoy her last few weeks at Holland Christian. Pray for Erika as she finishes her last weeks in Honduras. Pray for Chris that he is safe with all his travels for work. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!!!

Friday, April 27, 2012

YEAH GOD!!!!! They fixed the wireless Internet! These people up here love Tim!! He is pretty much stuck in the room with a lot of pain and the Internet is his only escape. They worked on it this morning :) We are up!
To bring you up to date. We got cleared for an air ambulance from the auto insurance Wed. afternoon. They called about 3:00 and said we were leaving in a couple of hours!!! I quickly packed (we were only allowed on small suitcase), tried to tie up some loose ends, and off we went. We had an ambulance ride to Ford International Airport and then boarded a small Lear jet. Tim stayed on a stretcher the whole time. The flight was fast! We were in the air about 90 minutes! We got transferred to another ambulance at the airport in Montreal for a 30 minutes ride to the hospital. The staff here greeted us with smiles and tears. They all feel terrible that Tim had this accident.
It has been a very busy couple of days at the hospital. We saw Dr. Ouelett, the back surgeon, yesterday. We had to have some more xrays (I swear Tim should be glowing by now!). The plan is surgery first thing Monday morning. They are going to try and maybe do some hardware to stabilize the lower back. Something that can be removed in a year and save some of Tim's mobility. If when they get in there and there is too much damage they might have to fuse the lower vertebrae to the pelvis. We asked how long the surgery would take and Dr. Ouelett said, "It will be done when I am finished." He is an awesome guy that had tears in his eyes when he talked to Tim.
Prayer requests: Dr. Ouelett warned that Tim would be very sore after the surgery. Please pray that the pain would be minimal and easy to control.
Please pray that the surgery to save some of Tim's mobility will be possible.
Dr. Fassier ,the doctor that does Tim's limbs, got called to Europe on a family emergency the day we arrived. Please pray for his family. Please pray that he could be able to come home soon and assess Tim and Tim's legs and arm.
God is taking care of us :) One of the nurses we have know for years was here to admit us Wed. night. Her comment was priceless, "If the accident was March 29, what took you so long to get up to us so we could help!!!" We have had everyone from nurses, to chefs, to cleaning staff, to pt, ot, secretaries all come by and say a tearful "hi." They all feel terrible about the accident. They are all bending over backwards to make Tim comfortable as possible. Thank you for the prayers!

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

Absolutely YEAH GOD!!!! We got approval for the air ambulance to Montreal! What a roller coaster! We went from try to come up with PLAN B: bed in the back of the Yukon for a 700 mile trip (Kev and I were working that one out in the middle of the night when we could not sleep) to now they are calling and asking if we call fly out yet tonight!!! I might have to pack fast!! Crazy! The next post will most likely be from Montreal. Pray for safety. Pray that the hospital will have all the orders needed to continue Tim's pain medication as soon as we get there. Pray that Tim will be able to tolerate all the transferring needed and that no further damage will be done to his back or the limbs with all the moving. Bonjour and Merci Beaucoup :) God goes before us!!!

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

Last day of work for awhile. Hard to walk out the doors not knowing when I will be able to come back. We are still waiting to hear about the flight to Montreal. We are getting down to the wire. Please keep praying! Tim is anxious to get going up to Montreal. He is ready to start fixing some of the bones, hardware, and his back. The Lord has it all in His hands! Let go and let God!

Monday, April 23, 2012

I got home from work to find Tim laughing with his friends and his grandma! Life is good. After supper I helped Tim shower in the garage. When he would get a little out of line I just shot the spray right at his face :) "I can take you mom with one arm in a cast and the other tied behind my back!" Thank the Lord for giving us a warped sense of humor!! You have to make lemonaide out of lemons :) We are still waiting on news for our flight on Thursday morning. I am praying that I can give that detail to God and just not worry about it. They are working on it. Thank you for the sweet notes! Thank you for the sweet texts!! Just when I want to scream God sends one of you to cheer us on! Just a FYI, Christopher Williams will be at Haven CRC 6 pm Sunday night. He was the artist that sang at the concert before we left for Tim's back surgery. After that concert Chris wrote a beautiful song about Tim. Wish we could be there :)

Sunday, April 22, 2012

Kevin and I went for our normal early Sunday morning walk before church this morning. Kevin said, "Well, this will be the last time we can do this for quite awhile." So true. God will have some new chapters written in the Bosch Family's story these coming weeks. Tim's night was a bit rough. Tim is looking forward to getting up to Montreal and getting some things fixed. Thank you so much for the prayers. It will be a busy week. I have to work Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday will be filled with finalizing details. Thursday morning we will "kick the tires and light the fires" as we fly up to Montreal. God will go before us!

Saturday, April 21, 2012

One day at a time. Small baby steps. I tried to lower the dose of Tim's pain medications but he is too sore. Please continue to pray for the flight and transfer plans to Montreal. Last I heard, there are still not definites on the flight. It is still going through the insurance's red tape. Please pray for Tim's pain. I am sure this will not be easy on all his fractures to fly up to Montreal. Thank you for praying for our family as a whole. This is not easy on an of our four kids. They are all processing this. Shoot, Kev and I are trying to process this too! But, God is good!!! We know that we are just walking down the path that God has already laid before us. We can only see just the inches right in front of us, not the whole path. But God sees the path and the entire garden!!!! "Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path." Ps. 119:105

Thursday, April 19, 2012

I went back to work today. The home health aid and physical therapist where in today to work with Tim. He got a shower :) We do not have a roll in shower so Tim get "hosed off" with a shower in the garage. I am thankful Tim has a sense of humor!! Still working on transportation details for Montreal. Thank you for your prayers! Tim is still pretty sore. Please pray for pain relief. It is very hard to watch Tim have so much pain.

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

God is good. I do not get out much but God always puts some of you in my path when I do get out. Thank you for the hugs. Thank you for the prayers. Thank you for sharing my tears. Do ever worry about what to say. Most of the time we just need a hug and a smile through the tears. Prayer request. Tomorrow I have to go to work. Pray that I can stay focused and give the rest to God. Pray for the home aid, nurse, and therapist who will be taking care of Tim tomorrow. Everyone is nervous and does not want to hurt Tim. Pray that our family can witness to all these people God is bringing into our lives and literally into our home :)

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

Things are coming together. Tim and I are getting ready for Montreal. We have had a lot people stopping at the house. Home health care nurses, PT, OT, Airway Oxygen, .....The phone is still ringing off the hook. Slowly we are getting there. Please pray that God will strengthen Tim's bones. The longer Tim is bed bound the more bone density he loses. We need those bones strong to try to fix them.

Monday, April 16, 2012

Crazy busy day! I had 3 people from Priority Health calling me. 3 people from the auto insurance. 3 people from the home health care agency calling and stopping by. Montreal Shriner's hospital calling me. On top of all that I had to take care of Tim. Give him his medications, transfer him in and out of bed, food, bathroom....The plan is back surgery on April 30 at the Shriner's Hospital. We are sooooo glad the surgery will not be at the Children's Hospital in Montreal. Tim and I will leave on April 26. Hopefully, while we are there Dr. Fassier will feel that Tim is stable enough to get either his arm or one of his legs fixed. The back surgery will keep us there for about a week. If they can do one of Tim's limbs that will put us there for at least 2 weeks. Anyone up for a road trip to visit us :) Thank you for your prayers. There are a lot of details to work out.

Sunday, April 15, 2012

You have to love Sunday! To be honest, it was a rough night. Tim was up from 4-5am with a lot of pain. Tim and I watch God's power in a thunderstorm. Allison and I rode to church. She was part of the praise team today. We decided singing God's praises in the midst of the storm was a slap in the Devil's face!!! You we both sang today with tears running down our faces. God is still good. On Christ the solid rock I stand! All other ground is sinking sand. God is holding on to us. We, as a family, could not do this without the community of God around us holding us up. We are waiting to see when we get the "GO" from Montreal. I will post that info hopefully tomorrow.

Friday, April 13, 2012

HOME!!! We got Tim camping out in a hospital bed in the middle of our living room :) He is doing well. We need to get into somewhat of a routine. Lots of medications. Lots of equipment. It is nice to have Tim home.
Got a call from Montreal today. The back surgeon, Dr. Oulette got the CT scan of Tim's lower back. Several of the lower vertebrae are broke and unstable. More back surgery. The sooner the better. They hope to fuse the last 4 vertebrae. We will know the date for sure on Monday. The date they are looking at having us flown to Montreal is April 26. We might have more surgery up in Montreal on his arm or leg if they feel Tim's body can heal all of this surgery and trauma at the same time. We, as a family, are a bit numb to be honest. To be split apart again for surgery is not something we are looking forward to. Leaning on our everlasting God!! In Christ, Deb

Thursday, April 12, 2012

Home tomorrow. That's the plan, Lord willing. Lots of paper work. Lots of organizing for home nursing care, tutoring, PT, OT......I have met more people in the last week. Small baby steps. The CT scan from the lower back has been sent. We shall see what Montreal has to say. All in God's time. Tim had a very sore day. When we were transferring Tim yesterday his leg got pulled (very hard to avoid all Tim's fractures!!!) and his right femur got stressed. He was very sore. Pray for me. I have my first day back to work tomorrow. I have to save my leave time for Montreal. My heart will be in 2 places. Pray for safety as we will be transferring Tim a lot tomorrow to get him home. Pray for the pain. I am sure Tim will be very sore with all the transferring. Praise God for the chance to be home!!! We as a family do not even know how to begin to say thank you to all of you praying for us. We are humbled and blessed.

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

We had a team meeting today at the hospital. The tenative plan is to discharge Tim to home on Friday. We will go home with half of the hospital!!! Hospital bed, reclining wheelchair, slide boards, 24 hour nursing care, in home PT and OT.....You get the picture. I got to see Tim's x-rays for the first time since the accident. In a word, scary. The rod in Tim's femur is bent. The right arm looks like it has an extra elbow. We heard from the back surgeon in Montreal. He would like some more CT pictures of Tim's lower back. "Something is not right." We are going to have those pictures done today and then FedEx'd up to Montreal. The auto insurance is putting an air ambulance on stand by to fly us up to Montreal when the doctors in Montreal give us the green light to come.
We are walking in the grace of God! God is in control of ALL of this!! We have no doubt. We have our faith in our Lord and Savior. He keeps all of His promises!!

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

We are making slow progress. Tim can transfer in and out of a reclining wheelchair with two people helping him. It is hard. Just to get him up to the bathroom takes an hour. First we have to fit all of his braces on, get the bed it just the right position, use a slide board, and two people to assist. He can tolerate being up for a couple of hours but then he gets really sore. For my medical friends out there he is on some serious pain medication. MS Contin, Vicodin, Robaxin, Valium. We have never, ever needed this much medicine for pain. The spasms are getting less but when they hit it is bad.
We did receive word back from Montreal. The back surgeon will be in tomorrow and review all the films that we sent. Dr. Fassier, the surgeon that has done Tim's arms and legs, is out of town this week but his nurse is aware and knows that Dr. Fassier will address it as soon as he is back in town. Progress!!!
Thanks for all the prayers! God is so good. Pray for patience. Pray that the pain continues to lessen.

Monday, April 9, 2012

We had an ok day. Tim was very sore this morning. Everything hurt. The people here are great. They are trying hard to figure out how we can keep Tim mobile even though we only have one limb working :S Tim gives it all he's got and then some. It worries me that he might pull so hard with his left arm that he might break that one too.
We have left a lot of messages for Montreal and hope to hear from them soon. They recasted Tim's right arm here at Mary Free Bed today. When they took the current cast off we measured the arm and there was a 40 % angle on the humerus. Not good!
Kevin and I are reading an awesome book call Forever. I was reading today and these verses came up. We are claiming them as a family. 2 Corinthians 4: 16-18 "Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."
Thank you again for your prayers. Please pray that we hear word from Montreal soon. Please pray for us to accept whatever the doctors up in Montreal want to do, even if they say we should wait. All is God's perfect time.

HE IS RISEN! Blessed Easter to all!
Tim is doing ok. We got him up in a reclining wheelchair and outside briefly yesterday. Putting on the armor of God has a whole new meaning! Tim has a turtle shell brace that starts at his neck and goes all the way past his right femur. It is a lot of pieces and parts and takes 30 minutes for us to get him into. He has to have it on whenever he tries to get up into the wheelchair. It is Tim's suit of armor!
Please pass on to people that we are in Mary Free Bed now. I have had some calls from DeVos and people have stopped up to see Tim. Thank you for the sweet notes of encouragment. The sweet texts. The prayers. We need them all!!!!
Our hope in in FOREVER! This is part of the journey that God has asked the Boschs to walk and we see His mercy and grace through it all. But this is not our home. This is not where we belong. We long for the day with no more pain and no more suffering!!!!

A New Chapter Begins

Dear Friends, Wow. I do not even know where to begin. On March 28, 1987 I married my best friend and a wonderful man. To celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, Allison's senior year, and visit Erika who is spending a semester abroad with Calvin in Honduras, Kevin, Allison, and I left for Santa Lucia, Honduras on March 28, 2012 to spend a week with Erika. On March 29 Tim was involved in a car accident. Tim's car was hit in the rear bumper when Tim missed the red light at the corner of State and Roosevelt in Zeeland. The other driver is fine. Praise the Lord! Tim's car spun into the deep ditch on the side of the road. It landed nose down and on the passanger side in a watery ditch. My sister witnessed the crash (Praise God!) and called 911. They had to cut the car apart to get Tim out. Tim is pretty beat up. He has been at DeVos Children's Hospital for over a week. We were just transferred to Mary Free Bed on Friday. Currently, he has a fractured right femur (upper leg), a fractured left lower leg (tibia), a fractured right humerus with a bent rod (upper arm), and spinal fractures above and below the spinal fusion we did last year. The right arm will need surgery soon. The doctors in Grand Rapids do not feel comfortable doing that surgery. It will be a tricky one. We do not want to loose function and/or feeling in the arm. We will have to get that surgery scheduled up in Montreal as soon as Tim is well enough to travel. Tim is in some pain. A lot of spasms. It is better than the first few days but we are on the strongest pain medications that Tim has ever needed. We are at Mary Free Bed until Tim is able to transfer (ie. bed to wheelchair, wheelchair to comode, wheelchair to car) with only one working limb.
So, there are the nuts and bolts. We have cried a lot. Tears of joy! Tim is still alive!!! If the air bag would have gone off Tim would not survived. Tears of pain. Tim is suffering again. Tears of frustration. Tim had come so far. He was starting to walk again after 2 years. Tears of being apart as a family. All Erika wanted to do was call in quits and fly home from Honduras with us.
On Sunday while in Honduras Kevin, Allison, Erika, and I found a small little white church. The First Baptist church of Roatan. We sat quietly and numbly in one of the back pews. The people there sang and danced for our Lord and Savior. One of the songs we sang with them was "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms." The last verse says:

What have I to dread, what have I to fear,Leaning on the everlasting arms?I have blessed peace with my Lord so near,Leaning on the everlasting arms.

I am sure no one knew why the only 4 white people in the church had tears running down their cheeks while trying to choke out those words. Or why 4 people where hugging each other and crying on a small verada in the mountains of Honduras after the phone call came. Quietly the song came to our lips and we started singing Peace like a River.
Easter Sunday is tomorrow. But my heart goes back to Friday right now. I can not even begin to imagine how hard it must have been for God to turn His back on His own Son. To watch His Son take on the suffering and pain of my sin. It is so hard to watch Tim's pain and suffering.
Thank you for your prayers. Thank you to all the people that stepped up big time to be with Tim while we where so many miles away.
Prayer requests. Less pain. Peace for Tim. He has a long road in front of him. Again. He is digging deep. Scheduling. We need to get this surgery done on Tim's arm. Wisdom and Patience. Kev and I have 4 kids. Each of them need and deserve time and attention.
I will try and keep this blog updated daily. It is humbling as a family to know how many people are praying for us. We are blessed! God has given us feet for the path. Have a blessed Easter. He is RISEN!! Praise God!!!
